Corner-Connected Pentominoes



Essentially the corner-connected pentominoes are nothing new. You can construct each pattern from two patterns of the simple pentominoes as shown in the figure above.

But there are some nice pictures, which are symmetric as whole figures, whereas the two parts that can be constructed with the simple pentominoes are not. Two hexagons with four jagged sides are possible, too.

The pieces can easily be made from coins connected with a film strip. Here are the I and L pentominoes.

If we start with the usual set of pentominoes and add the set of corner-connected pentominoes we get 24 pieces, which allow for a 5-fold replica of an edge-connected pentomino with a similar hole.
